Deputy Head of Nursing & Quality in an NHS Trust and SE Regional Lead, CNO/CMidO Black and Minority Ethnic Strategic Advisory Group

Dr Fortune Mhlanga is a Deputy Head of Nursing and Quality at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. She is a Mental Health Nurse, a Professional Nurse Advocate and a TRIM Practitioner. Post qualifying as a registered mental health nurse, Fortune worked in various mental health settings before moving into Higher Education. Fortune’s previous roles include Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing where she taught on the BSc and MSc Nursing programmes. She has recently held the role of Quality and Governance Lead in an NHS Trust before moving on to her Deputy Head of Nursing role. In addition to her role in the Trust, she is currently the Regional Lead for the CNO, CMidO Strategic Advisory Group for the South-East of England.

Fortune completed a doctoral research study focusing on the implementation of recovery-oriented practice in mental health services and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Fortune is a compassionate leader whose passions include quality improvement, supporting others to be the best version of themselves and promoting equity and psychological safety in the workplace.
