Improving work processes with Relational Coordination: a masterclass with Jody Hoffer Gittell

22 May 2025
Stream 1 Stream 4

There’s little additional gain to be made from pushing people in healthcare to work even harder, faster or more efficiently. The focus of leading-edge work is shifting from individuals to systems: how can individuals and/or work groups collaborate more effectively? In this Masterclass, Jody Hoffer Gittell will take us through the principles of Relational Coordination (RC): an empirically validated framework for assessing and improving the relational core that determines the success of every work process. RC makes relationships and interdependencies visible and manageable. Teams with high levels of RC achieve higher quality, work more efficiently, create a better experience for people who use services, and enjoy more worker satisfaction and resilience.

As a result of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Define Relational Coordination and its key components: communication, shared goals, shared knowledge, and mutual respect.
  • Recognise the impact of Relational Coordination on organisational performance and employee well-being.
  • Understand the first steps in actions to foster a high-performance team environment through Relational Coordination
